From the line to the Lord.
Every hunt test is a picture: a standard to meet, a line to run, a hand to trust. Scripture tells that same story about you and me. Here it is, laid out plain, four marks straight from the book of Romans.
We all break the line
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
No matter how well trained, every one of us breaks somewhere. Measured against God’s perfect standard, not a single one of us runs a clean line on our own. That falling short is what the Bible calls sin.
Every fault carries a price
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
In the field, a fault costs you the pass. In life, sin costs us far more, a separation from God we could never work off. But notice the second half: God is holding out a gift we could never earn.
The Handler took our place
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus stepped onto the line in our place. He took the fall we earned, and finished the work we never could. That is what “It is finished” means, the same word every handler chases, spoken from the cross.
Answer the call
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
A good retriever answers the whistle and comes to the hand. God is calling you home. You answer by trusting that Jesus is Lord, believing He rose from the grave, and calling on Him to save you.

It isn't the words that save you, it's the faith behind them. If you're ready to trust Christ, you can tell God something like this, right where you're standing.
“Lord Jesus, I know I've broken the line. I've sinned and fallen short, and I can't fix it on my own. I believe You died in my place and rose again. Right now I turn from my own way and trust You. Be my Lord and my Savior, and thank You for calling me home. Amen.”
